Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, has expressed her determination to continue in her role despite criticism and calls for her resignation. In an interview with the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast on 16 January 2025, Reeves stated, “I won’t let them get me down.”

Reeves also told Nick Robinson, host of BBC’s Political Thinking podcast, that she was “happy” to be known as the “Iron Chancellor.”  Reporting on the story, The Telegraph said that Reeves was likening herself to Margaret Thatcher whose nickname was the “Iron Lady.”  However, history has already produced an “Iron Chancellor” and he bore no relation to Thatcher.

The “Iron Chancellor” refers to Otto von Bismarck, who served as the Chancellor of the German Empire from 1871 to 1890. Known for his role in unifying Germany and modernising the nation, Bismarck, a reactionary and militarist, was the “Founder of the Reich.”  His 1871 unification of Germany put Europe on a path of disaster leading up to World War I.

His political strategies and policies significantly influenced the course of European history, contributing to the conditions that led to World War I.  Between 1862 and 1890 the “Iron Chancellor,” Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898), effectively ruled first Prussia and then all of Germany. A master strategist, Bismarck initiated decisive wars with Denmark, Austria and France to unite 39 independent German states under Prussian leadership.

Is Reeves happy to be called the “Iron Chancellor” as a nod to Margaret Thatcher?  Or is it a nod to Otto von Bismarck? Or does “Rachel from Accounts” simply not know what she is doing nor understand what she’s saying?  The latter is the most likely.

While previously it was a hobby culminating in writing articles for Wikipedia (until things made a drastic and undeniable turn in 2020) and a few books for private consumption, since March 2020 I have become a full-time researcher and writer in reaction to the global takeover that came into full view with the introduction of covid-19. For most of my life, I have tried to raise awareness that a small group of people planned to take over the world for their own benefit. There was no way I was going to sit back quietly and simply let them do it once they made their final move.

She sure sounds thick and deranged when she speaks, not the best combination when she is supposedly running the finances of our country. Well I say running it, there will be dark forces in the background pulling the string, Reeves and Starmer merely puppets doing their masters bidding, that much is obvious. Buckle up folks, it’s going to get messy!

Thatcher was the Iron Lady, which was considered a compliment at the time. Being regarded as an iron chancellor is no complement given the history it invokes.

The last Iron Chancellor Bismarck did not cause the first WW.
England decided to eliminate the German competition.
See statements made by Churchill and British Newspapers of the time.

Bismarck championed a balance of power approach, the opposite of what. His successors did. WW1 wouldn’t have happened with him.

He was also very erudite, another point of departure with Ms Reeves.
