Renewable energy in the form of wind and solar has driven energy prices skyward in the UK, threatening industries such as chemicals that remain.
According to Nigel Farage, Member of Parliament for Clacton, Net Zero targets are the primary reason for the deindustrialisation of Britain because its electricity prices for industry are between five and six times higher than those in America.

On Tuesday, Ofgem announced a 6.4% increase in the energy price cap for the period covering April to June 2025. “A recent spike in wholesale prices is the main driver of today’s price rise, accounting for around 78% of the total increase. A small increase in policy costs and associated inflationary pressures make up a further 22%,” Ofgem said.
The graphs below show the current and historical wholesale prices. The graphs end on 30 December 2024 so perhaps don’t capture the “recent spike” Ofgem refers to as the driver for the price increase.

We previously published an article explaining the charges that are included in our energy bills. Roughly 25% of the energy bills we pay are charges for “environmental and social costs.” This 25% is now likely to be slightly higher because, as Ofgem noted on Tuesday, “[an] increase in policy costs and associated inflationary pressures make up a further 22%” of the 6.4% price cap increase.
“Environmental and social obligation costs are paid to larger energy suppliers which have to help pay for government energy policies. These costs cover schemes such as to support energy efficiency improvements in homes and businesses, to help vulnerable people and encourage take-up of renewable technology,” the state-owned National Energy System Operator (“NESO”) says, which adds 2% to our bills for itself.
It’s not only the cost subsidies given for wind turbines and solar panels that the Government is burdening consumers with. Because the wind does not always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine, so-called “renewable energy” needs backup. As Mr. Farage says, the slogan that renewables are cheaper is a great lie.

Britain’s Aluminium Industry Is Gone and There’s Very Little Steel Left
By Institute for Energy Research
According to the leader of the UK Reform Party, Nigel Farage, Trump’s tariffs on aluminium and steel will not hurt Britain very much because its entire aluminium industry is gone, and there is very little steel left.
Net Zero targets are the primary reason for the deindustrialisation of Britain because its electricity prices for industry are between five and six times higher than those in America. Farage calls the slogan that renewables are cheaper a great lie. He says the cost of renewables plus backup must be more than that of backup. The backup is needed because sometimes the wind does not blow, and the sun does not shine.
His deputy, Richard Tice, has said, “Net Zero is without question the greatest act of self-harm ever imposed on the nation by the people in Westminster. It’s killing jobs, whether it’s in the car industry, the oil and gas industry, the steel industry or the chemicals industry, the truth is that decarbonisation does mean deindustrialisation.”
To correct the problem, Nigel Farage vowed that if elected, he would do away with the disastrous Net-Zero green agenda and place a windfall tax on the so-called renewables sector, which is similar to the windfall profit tax levied on North Sea oil and gas production by ruling parties in the UK.
His reform agenda includes scrapping Net Zero policies, making energy prices competitive and lowering the cost of living for average Britons. He intends to add a windfall tax to solar and wind firms to recoup the massive subsidies they received. Farage asserted that the “endless” subsidies handed out by London to often foreign renewable energy firms had a direct link to the cost of energy soaring in Britain. To subsidise the industry, the UK government has spent around £100 billion ($126 billion) on subsidies for green energy projects, which equates to around £3,500 per household.
In addition to a windfall tax, the Reform party would put an end to farmland being used for green projects, citing its limited quantity. The Reform party would also mandate all energy pylon cables to be put underground as a cost-effective measure that preserves scenic views.
Large-scale battery energy storage systems, often built next to solar farms, would be banned under a Reform government until they can be proven “absolutely safe.” Tice claimed that the renewables sector lacks “responsibility and accountability for the safety standards and regulations” on these storage systems.
A fire at the Moss Landing Power Plant in California, one of the world’s largest battery energy storage facilities, contaminated the air, soil and water in the surrounding areas with heavy metals. According to The New York Times, heavy metals detected in the soil have health implications for the local county’s agriculture industry and the workers who pick the produce.
In the United States, the Democrat-passed climate bill, the Inflation Reduction Act, is providing massive subsidies for wind and solar power and storage batteries, which would not be economical without them, and grants and loans to “clean energy” companies. While subsidies are meant to get new technologies off the ground, wind and solar power have received these subsidies for decades. The Inflation Reduction Act was initially estimated to cost $369 billion but is now expected to run over $1 trillion as the lucrative subsidies are uncapped.
Besides these handouts, the Biden administration also placed onerous regulations and efficiency standards on traditional technologies to promote its climate agenda with more wind turbines, solar panels and electric vehicles. President Trump and his energy team have a massive task to change Biden’s policies and make American energy abundant, affordable and reliable again.
Conclusion
It looks like the UK’s Reform Party leader, Nigel Farage, will put the United Kingdom first as President Trump is doing for the United States, instituting logical reforms and making the UK energy sector affordable again.
Without those reforms, the UK will continue with its high energy prices, increasing the energy poverty of its residents and the deindustrialisation of its industries. The Biden administration’s rules and regulations, forcing net zero policies on Americans to fulfil a commitment to the Paris climate accord, raised energy prices for Americans and needlessly spent taxpayer funds on massive energy-related subsidies and “clean energy” grants and loans for firms that are having trouble staying afloat.

It just confirms that Labour are doing their WEF master’s bidding, destroying this country’s economy with their policies. I have to think it is deliberate as I can’t believe that they are so inept.
Net Zero and all related “climate measures” are a complete scam. The C02 figures are roughly: CO2 comprises 0.4% of the atmosphere. 97% of that is generated by nature – natural processes. The remaining 3% is man-made. So, using logic and common sense for a minute, how can the 3% be having such an effect that it’s drastically altering the planetary climate? And, conversely, if natural processes are drastically altering the climate, there’s nothing can be done about it anyway. And we are talking about tiny amounts of gas.
Add to that the simple but real science: CO2 is food for plants. The more CO2 there is, the more the plants grow. The more the plants grow, the more oxygen they make. The more oxygen they make, the better it is for us.
Add to that that CO2 levels were just above planetary extinction levels about 200 years ago at 180ppm (from an original 7000+ppm). At 150ppm, there’s not enough CO2 to feed plants and, if we’d reached that level, it would’ve precipitated a runaway landslide into planetary death. The Industrial Revolution saved us as we’ve been pumping CO2 back into the atmosphere since then (God moves in mysterious ways) and we’re at about 400ppm at the moment. We need more for a reasonable margin of safety, so keep burning wood and coal for heating and electricity production, and keep driving that smoky old car, and CAN the whole Net Zero climate BS scam immediately!
I guess they figure they won’t be needing all those jobs anymore for some reason.

Energy price rise? This can’t true. Before the election, Starmer promised that energy bills would not go up. Here he is two years ago, and he never breaks his promises. 😉
