A research programme by the UK Health Security Agency (“UKHSA”) and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (“APHA”) has identified fragments of West Nile Virus genetic material in mosquitoes collected in Britain. 

They were able to do this by deploying the test, test, test approach, using polymerase chain reaction (“PCR”) testing of 32,000 mosquitoes.  If they look hard enough, they will find it.

“We await the next phase: crafting a model calling for the culling of all mosquitoes,” Trust the Evidence said sarcastically.

Some Background

Genetically Modified Mosquitoes

Below, we have reproduced an article published by Trust the Evidence.  While we read the article, we should keep in mind that Oxitec develops genetically modified insects, specifically mosquitoes, to improve public health and food security through insect control, or so it claims.  

“Our team is working around the clock to deliver innovative mosquito solutions to combat species that transmit deadly diseases around the world,” its website states. They refer to this as “Public Health” work.   “Our Public Health work spans four continents and multiple programmes, with more to come.”

Additionally, “Oxitec’s Friendly™ platform is being applied to combat the growing threat posed by agricultural pests that are damaging crops globally, and threatening food security and livelihoods,” it boasts.  They call this their “Food Sustainability” work.

Oxitec is a US-owned company with headquarters and R&D facilities in the UK, just a few miles from where it started at Oxford University. It has developed genetically modified Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to “control the spread” of diseases.  Aedes aegypti “spreads dengue fever, Zika, chikungunya and other deadly viral diseases.”  Another disease this particular mosquito carries is the yellow fever virus.

Interestingly, the UK government states, “West Nile Virus [the virus they are hunting for in UK mosquitoes] is a vector borne disease belonging to the Flaviviridae family, which also includes the viruses that cause dengue and yellow fever.”

Aedes aegypti  is considered an invasive species; it originated in African forests and has since spread globally.  Although historically present in Europe, its current distribution is limited, but extending, according to a European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control factsheet.  

Could Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that have found their way into countries outside Africa been developed in and, in the case of the UK, released from a laboratory at or near Oxford University?  The same university that was the birthplace of the experimental, ineffective and unsafe AstraZeneca covid vaccine.

Aedes aegypti can theoretically transmit West Nile Virus but their efficiency in doing so is lower compared to Culex species.  The mosquitoes that the UK research programme tested for West Nile Virus were Aedes vexans.

Although Aedes aegypti and Aedes vexans are from the same genus (Aedes, also known as the tiger mosquito because of the white stripes on their legs), they are not the same species.  However, Aedes vexans also carries mosquito-borne viruses, such as dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis viruses. 

Can Aedes aegypti and Aedes vexans interbreed? And can Oxitec’s genetically modified Aedes aegypti mosquitoes breed with the locally found Aedes vexans?  No one knows, or if they do, they’re not telling us.  Why does this matter?  Because while Oxitec experiments on the public and the environment, we do not know whether they are reducing disease or causing it.  Also, by eliminating species of mosquitoes, as Oxitec claims their genetically modified mosquitoes do, what insects, fish, birds and reptiles are they harming that rely on mosquitoes as a food source?

Who Is Conducting PCR Testing of Mosquitoes in the UK?

UKHSA and APHA’s mosquito research programme to test mosquitoes for diseases is called the Vector-Borne RADAR (Real-time Arbovirus Detection And Response).  It is a multi-disciplinary, £1.15 million UK Research and Innovation (“UKRI”) and Defra-funded One Health project, focused on understanding emergence and transmission pathways for zoonotic mosquito-borne viruses of wild birds in the United Kingdom. The project runs from 2023 to 2026.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (“Defra”) is a ministerial department of the UK government.  UKRI is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (“DSIT”).  According to its website, UKRI invests “£8 billion of taxpayers’ money each year into research and innovation.”

So, Vector-Borne RADAR is part of the UK government’s “One Health” agenda.  The One Health agenda is also part of the World Health Organisation’s nefarious Pandemic Agreement, which was “adopted” on Tuesday, and amendments to the International Health Regulations, which were adopted last year.  In the UK, the Government is already implementing the One Health agenda – in this respect, no diktats from WHO need be adopted or effected into national legislation.  The Government is already doing it without consulting the public, whose money they rely on to implement the agenda.

Urgent News from the UK Scare Agency

We are delighted to report that the UKHSA is doing this to keep us safe. They have been testing 32,000 mosquitoes using PCR. Consequently, they have found something  – we are not quite sure what.

However, in 2/200 Culex mosquitoes, UKHSA has found “fragments” of West Nile virus, possibly the new scary kid on the block.

Note from The Exposé: The article published by UKHSA, as shown in the image below, states: “The fragments were detected through the Vector-Borne RADAR (Real-time Arbovirus Detection And Response) programme by APHA, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, in 2 samples of Aedes vexans mosquitoes collected by UKHSA from wetlands on the River Idle near Gamston (Retford), Nottinghamshire, during July 2023 … Other types of mosquitoes tested include Culex modestus and Culex pipiens as the principal bridge and enzootic vectors.” [Emphasis added.]

Assuming that the positive PCR tests came from Culex mosquitoes could be due to information, or lack thereof, provided on the Vector-Borne RADAR’s website.  It states, “In the summer of 2020 Usutu virus (USUV), a mosquito-borne virus, was detected here for the first time in wild birds, following range expansion in recent decades across Europe” and shows an image of a Culex pipiens mosquito alongside the text. This is because the Usutu virus, a flavivirus belonging to the Japanese encephalitis complex, mainly infects Culex mosquitoes and birds.  We were unable to find mention of the PCR testing of the Aedes vexans mosquitoes, or any mention of Aedes vexans, on Vector-Borne RADAR’s website.

Like all announcements, this one provided no real information. It does not explain that if you use PCR, you will find anything you tell it to detect. It does not explain that a potentially dangerous infectious virus needs to be complete and in sufficient quantities to infect you.

We await the next phase: crafting a model calling for the culling of all mosquitoes. We’d also like to know what happened to the other 31,800 mosquitoes.

So, folks, while you cannot get an appointment or a test from your local primary care centre, and there are 7.5 million people in line, rest assured that mosquitoes have the right of way and are regularly tested and surveyed.
