They also used hydroxychloroquine in potentially lethal doses (2,400mg in the first 24 hours) as part of the Recovery Trial and REMAP-CAP Trial back in March/April 2020. Hydroxychloroquine is a more dangerous drug for G6PD deficient people. G6PDd is most common in parts of the world where malaria is endemic such as Sub-Saharan Africa. Does this explain the overrepresentation of black people in the Covid-19 death statistics?
On April 1st Chris Whitty signed a message to NHS colleagues to ask that “every effort is made to enrol COVID-19 patients in the national priority clinical trials”. Recovery and REMAP-CAP were those trials.
