Introduction
More than 380 million Christians worldwide face persecution and discrimination for their faith. On Open Doors’ World Watch List of the 50 countries where Christians face the most extreme persecution, the Democratic Republic of Congo (“DRC”) ranks 35th. DRC has risen six places on the World Watch List due to an increase in violence, Open Doors says.
Even though 90% of people in the DRC are Christian, believers are increasingly vulnerable to persecution. With the growth of multiple Islamic extremist and rebel groups perpetrating violence, coupled with an ineffective, complicit, and/or corrupt government, Christians in the DRC are suffering from unprecedented persecution.
Open Doors notes that the severe persecution and violence is mainly from Islamist militants known as the Allied Democratic Forces (“ADF”), especially in the eastern region of the country. Allied with the Islamic State group, the ADF abducts and kills Christians, and attacks churches, leading to widespread terror, insecurity and displacement.
International Christian Concern notes that the ADF are one of many extremist Islamic groups targeting Christians while seeking to establish Islamic law throughout the region.
The March 23 Movement (“M23”) rebel group, reportedly supported by Rwanda and which has recently invaded the DRC, also targets Christian civilians, making the situation even worse.
The DRC has no specific laws to protect Christian women and girls, making them vulnerable to domestic violence and forced marriages. Christian women are also at risk of abduction, rape, trafficking and sexual slavery, especially by the ADF.
Christian men are at risk of being maimed, abducted, forced to join militia groups and killed. Men and boys can also face sexual violence. To escape, Christian men may be forced to pay large ransoms, driving their families deeper into poverty. Christian men also face workplace discrimination and may be denied jobs.
Highlighting an Open Doors article which we have reproduced below, Elsa said:
I have been reading about this kind of thing for years: Christians murdered for being Christian in a variety of countries, by adherents of the Islamic religion. Never the other way around. The Sudan comes most to mind. Also Nigeria.
I have also noted that those who are utterly outraged at what has been happening to the Muslim inhabitants of Gaza almost never mention any of this violence by Muslims.

70 Christians found beheaded in church in DRC
By Open Doors, 18 February 2025
Christians in DRC have again been left reeling after a heinous act of violence that has left 70 believers dead. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in the country as they face escalating persecution.
Seventy Christians have been found beheaded in a church in the Democratic Republic of Congo (“DRC”), in what’s the latest devastating attack on believers in the northeast of the country.
According to field sources, at around 4 am last Thursday (13 February) suspected militants from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) – a group with ties to the so-called Islamic State (“IS”) – approached homes in Mayba in the territory of Lubero, saying: “Get out, get out and don’t make any noise.” Twenty Christian men and women came out and were captured.
Shaken by this incident, people from the local community in Mayba later gathered to work out how to release those held captive. However, ADF militants surrounded the village and captured a further 50 believers.
All 70 of those kidnapped were taken to a Protestant church in Kasanga where they were tragically killed.
Muhindo Musunzi, director of the Kombo primary school (which belongs to the CECA20 church), says that before this incident, churches, schools and health centres had all shut their doors because of the chaotic security situation. “We had to move all activities towards Vunying,” he said.
Field sources report that, until yesterday (Tuesday 18 February), some families had not been able to bury their dead because of insecurity in the area. Many Christians have now fled the area for their safety.
“We don’t know what to do or how to pray; we’ve had enough of massacres,” says an elder of the CECA20 church. “May God’s will alone be done.”

Rise In Violence And Internal Displacement
This latest awful incident is a continuation of the escalating threat posed by ADF militants in the country’s northeast region. In 2014, the group intensified attacks in Beni territory in North Kivu province, and since then attacks have spread to the territories of Irumu and Mambasa in Ituri province, and now it’s affecting Lubero. In the last month alone, the group have killed more than 200 people in Baswagha chiefdom, according to a local news website.
This explains why DRC rose six places to number 35 in the latest World Watch List. Last year, 355 were killed for their faith, compared with 261 the previous year, whilst an estimated 10,000 were internally displaced, which is ten times more than in 2023. Houses have been looted and burnt, schools relocated, churches and health facilities closed, and several Christian villages have been abandoned altogether. The recent activities of the M23 rebel group, reportedly supported by Rwanda, has added to the vulnerability of Christians.
A Call To Remain In Prayer
“Open Doors strongly condemns this heinous act of violence against civilians and calls upon civil societies, governments and international organisations to prioritise civilian protection in eastern DRC where armed groups, such as the ADF, are operating,” says John Samuel, Open Doors’ legal expert for the work in sub-Saharan Africa.
“The violence takes place in a context of impunity, where almost no one is held accountable,” he continues. “This massacre is a clear indicator of widespread human rights violations against civilians and vulnerable communities, often targeting Christians, perpetrated by ADF – a [so-called Islamic State] affiliate.”
“We further call on the international Christian community to remain in prayer for Christians and vulnerable communities in eastern DRC,” adds John Samuel. “Pray for an end to violence and that government at all levels will diligently, impartially and transparently address the violence and its effects. Pray for the church in Lumbero as she seeks to bring physical and spiritual assistance to the families affected.”

Hi Rhoda,
This is why we need to get rid of the Moslems out of the UK.
When there are enough of them, the same will happen in the UK.
This has all been planned by our treasonous MP’s.
Christians are the target.
ROFLMAO.
The demarcation line isn’t whether these murderers are Moslem or not, it’s whether they are psychopaths who love violence or not. See if you can find some old lectures by Islamic eschatologist Sheik Imran Hosein on YouTube. When the Islamic State first hit the news being filmed stopping Moslem truck drivers and shooting them dead if they couldn’t recite the 35 tenets of Islam, and beheading other Moslems for similar “offences”, Sheik Imran emphatically called them out and said, “These people are not Moslems! No Moslem would do such a thing as that!” From my own researches, I learned that to be Moslem, you must have come to a complete revolution in consciousness with the realisation that the only true way to live is by being in service to other people’s welfare. The “Moslems” in the UK who are doing all these atrocities are in the bracket of violence-loving psychopaths. Let’s not conflate the two. And then there’s George Sore Arse ….
the line here is FEAR PORN again.
Hi Chris, while there is some cross over, there is a difference between an Islamist and a Muslim.
I look at so much information that I often forget to earmark important things but yesterday I saw a report? comment? that the Islamist gangs in DRC are paid mercenaries for big overseas corporations who want to destabilise the DRC so they can get in there for all the rich resources in that part of the country. Don’t know how true it is but it certainly makes sense. This is how big corporations operate.

Thanks for that. I’d seen it before but it was a good refresher.
I remembered that just prior to the advent of the Pakistani rape gangs, “Pakky-bashing” was regular Saturday night entertainment for Skinhead youth “armed” with steel-capped boots for delivering maximum damage to their Pakistani victims, and that these Skinheads were the result of the collapse of the British Empire, and colonised people who identified as “British” pouring into the UK and taking the jobs that these English youth would normally have done. It was a huge enough problem then, which is probably why it was ignored, and has just compounded multiple times since then as its been swamped by the next ignored problem. The politicians have revealed themselves to be corrupt and criminal and not interested in solving real problems – which means ….. it’s down to the people. Need another Ghandi ……
oh boo hoo time for poor christians again. of course the congolese are “islamic” no mention of the christians slaughtered in palestine though.
Hi ChrisIrish67, do you have a source for your statement “no mention of the christians slaughtered in palestine though”? I have questions. For example, who slaughtered them? Usually Islamists do not tolerate any religion other than Islam, so the chances are it was Islamists who have slaughtered Christians in Gaza and the West Bank.
You many be interested to know that Christians are indigenous to Gaza and the West Bank. They trace their history back to the birth of Christianity 2,000 years ago. It is said Islam was created in about 610 A.D. – it is the youngest of the Abrahamic religions – and it took some time for the religion to take off and spread beyond Prophet Muhammad’s locale (for some regions decades and for others it took centuries). Most of the Muslims (Arabs) in Gaza and the West Bank flooded in during the 1930’s and then another mass migration of Muslims (Arabs) into these areas occurred in the 1960s (if I recall correctly).

What year the Islamists moved in and took control of the West Bank and Gaza, I’m not sure. It was most likely a slow, underhanded infiltration at first (as we are witnessing in the UK now). But when Hamas became Gaza’s “government,” it was a sure sign that Islamists (the Islamic State, the Muslim Brotherhood) had taken control of Gaza.
As with all territories that Islamists occupy and reach a critical mass, so to speak, the local inhabitants are forced/coerced into following Islam, often through violence and intimidation. It would be the same in Palestine. I have often wondered if Islamists are the modern day Khazars, possibly even able to trace the roots of their beliefs, customs and modus operandi etc back to Khazaria.
Hi Rhonda. I might miss some details – who doesn’t? – so I always try and identify principles – those things that never change – to try and make sense of anything. I believe a fundamental principle is that we all (everyone, globally) want peace and justice and, if you look into this feeling/motivation, you’ll see that it’s a given of our human nature, like testosterone and oestrogen are givens. Only people who are mentally ill are motivated by a love of violence. So, I’ve been following people who present the Palestinian side of the question – and being consistently attacked for it – and as a result, am always looking for evidence to support my position that follows the principle of common sense – common sense being the result of being able to identify principles – if you can see the connection. Anyway, I just notice that you have “a bit of an attitude” to Hamas, so thought I’d send you a recent talk by Jewish professor Norman Finkelstein, going over Palestinian history since the Zionists first arrived in Palestine, so that you can see where Hamas comes from ….
Hi chrisirish67,
What religion are you by the way.
Sounds like you are a Moslem.
You have completely misrepresented the situation in the both the Congo and in Gaza by characterizing them as an attack against Christians by Islamic terrorist’s.
Firstly, the Congo is religiously diverse with all forms of Christianity predominating, with Islam representing only 1%. In Palestine, as in Iran, Syria and other parts of the Arab peninsular, Christians, Jews, Muslims and other denominations have live side by side in perfect harmony for millennia.
What’s occurring in the Congo, is a Western backed land grad to steal the resources of one of the richest countries in the world. The people you call radical Muslim head coppers are nothing more than mercenaries funded by the same USAID and other foreign agitators as they’re doing in Palestine and Syria.
It’s obvious you’re not stupid people, so why are do it?
Hi Mr Angry, Islamist is not the same as Muslim. There are some similarities but they are not the same. E.g. Muslims follow the religion of Islam whereas Islamists use the religion and the Quran to achieve their (political) goals. So both Muslims and Islamists will quote or refer to the Quran but for different reasons.
What is Islamists goal? To establish and implement an Islamic state based on Sharia law, often using violence and intimidation to achieve and maintain it.
https://policyexchange.org.uk/understanding-islamism/
Hi Mr Angry,
So if 70 Christians have been beheaded, you think that is ok.
It is just what they do in Saudi Arabia, on the streets.
They are all the same wherever they are.
Coming to a place near you.
Dave, your comments on this thread throughout the day- are “bang on!”
The only good Muslim/Islamist is one that converts to Christ…PERIOD.
Islam (Muslims) say their false god Allah has no son.
Who is the liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is the antichrist, even he that denieth the Father and the Son.
1 John 2:22.
This is correct. USAID is a rogue agency within the US government that is being dismantled, it’s workforce dismissed and potentially charged and prosecuted for such as we are discussing here. It is nominally being placed under the State Department with a skeleton staff and later determination will be made as to what to do with them. It is not the only nefarious agency in the US, they are all under scrutiny to follow money trails.
And did the Church of England or anyone in parliament or Whitehouse issue a statement T or protect or demanded an action plan ???
A large part of the action plan is getting rid of USAID which has been funding and furthering a lot of this type of evil action, while at the same time sending kickbacks to US politicians. US taxpayer funding (unbeknownst to the tax payers) providing billions of dollars to nefarious groups, governments, NGOs and operations. This will now dry up, as even the building USAID was housed in has been taken over by President Trump. It might take a little time to trickle down, but huge changes are coming. Since these rabid Islamists mostly come from 3rd world nations, with no money, ( with the exception of Saudi Arabia)they will have to cool their jets. The US can’t come rescue each group in the international community, the people will have to take care of it themselves or appeal to whatever allies they might have for help. We here in the US have a lot of our own housekeeping to do. Sad situation, but there is hope for better. I am not sure what that will come in the form of.
