How It Unfolded: A Timeline of Tension
June 11 – Iran promises retaliation on Israel following a strike on an IRGC compound in Syria
June 14 – Israeli PM Netanyahu declares Israel will defend itself “by any means necessary” against any Iranian escalation
June 18 – Iran reportedly prepares for war, moving missile batteries closer to its western border towards Israel
June 21 – The US attacks Iran’s most significant nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan
June 23 – Iran retaliates with missile strikes on US military base in Qatar, resulting in no injuries or casualties. Attack deemed “weak” and “expected” by President Trump
June 23–24 – Reports emerge that Iran and the US gave advance warning of their attacks on one another, suggesting ulterior motives for the strikes
June 25 – President Trump confirms nuclear talks with Iran are set for next week [Source: AP News]
A Predictable Pattern
Within hours of the airstrikes:
- Official channels in the U.S. confirmed advance notice was sent to Iran through diplomatic backchannels in Oman and Russia
- Iran told the U.S. when and how it would retaliate including the likely impact zone
- Israel’s defence systems were prepared to receive missiles, intercepting nearly all of Iran’s launch
- No civilian casualties were reported on any side
And within two weeks of the first signs of serious escalation, President Trump has announced nuclear talks with Iran will take place next week. This cycle of strike, response, and sudden negotiation is playing out like a scripted sequence. Is this a show of brilliant military tactics by Trump, in which he has masterfully managed to quell World War Three – or diplomacy by design?
War or Choreography?
If diplomacy is the goal, why strike in the first place? Is it still retaliation if it’s carefully staged? And how have all sides appeared to win?
Some possibilities:
- Iran needed to show the world that it won’t be bullied
- Israel reinforced its red lines without full-scale retaliation
- The U.S. projected strength to allies and enemies, both domestic and global
A fortnight ago, the world braced for impact. But with news of advance notice and muted responses leading to a negotiating table – it now looks more like a calculated sequence than uncontrolled aggression.
This Isn’t New: The Playbook of Managed Conflicts
If this is starting to feel familiar, you’re not alone. You’ve seen this before — and more often than you might think. High profile examples include:
Gulf War (1991) – With careful media coordination, limited objectives, and deliberate escalation, the first Gulf War produced very real destruction – and showmanship.

In that “Timeline of Tension”, he fails to mention the Iranian attacks on Israeli towns, cities, ports and bases, see the article below.
He does say “Israel’s defence systems were prepared to receive missiles, intercepting nearly all of Iran’s launch”, but those that got through inflicted major damage.
He says that no civilian casualties were reported on any side. I read reports of casualties on both sides.

The Iranian attacks on Israel had depleted their stock of missiles for the Iron Dome. Had Iran carried on with the nightly attacks, the Israelis would have soon run out of defensive missiles. It is possible that this ceasefire is just a pause to give the Israelis time to re-stock with missiles for their Iron Dome. After all, we cannot believe anything Trump says. He said he would wait for two weeks before deciding on whether to attack Iran and then he bombed Iran the very next day.

Thanks for your input. It’s a very interesting theory about why this ceasefire may have been called, if Israel were truly running out of missiles for the Iron Dome. There’s certainly no denying that damage has been done, and civilians have been affected, but specifically in the case of these recent events, I haven’t yet seen an official report about casualties. Can you add a source so I can check it out please? I’m always happy to be corrected and to learn more.

The BBC reported Israeli deaths and casualties. I suggest you look at the Israeli press, Times Of Israel, Jerusalem Post and Haaretz. I’m sure they will have reported the structural damage, the casualties and the deaths. Also, see the Helmer article I posted. Helmer seems to be a man of integrity.

I am not keen on George Galloway and I don’t usually watch his videos but I looked to see what he was saying about Israel and Iran because he does sometimes have information that is only available from sources that I wouldn’t otherwise come across.
George Galloway thinks that the war between Israel and Iran isn’t over, the ceasefire won’t last and he backs that up with evidence. He tells of news in the Israeli press of large scale military action this week. However, I go back to Trump and his claim of waiting for two weeks but he bombed the very next day, so we can’t believe things they say, Trump or Netanyahu.

At 1h 16 mins – Richard Medhurst warns that the claim that the ceasefire is to give the Israelis time to re-stock with missiles could be misinformation to make the Iranians think they are in a better position than they are. We never know what to believe.
