UN committee agrees to impose taxes on shipping, it’s a leap forward for One World Governance

The UN approved the first global carbon tax yesterday, which would require all ships worldwide to use a less carbon-intensive fuel mix or else pay for excess emissions from 2028. It is the start of the UN raising its own funds through taxes rather than being reliant on contributions from national governments.

Yesterday, the United Nations’ International Maritime Organisation (“IMO”) approved the first global carbon tax on shipping.  The decision, made by a committee at the United Nations’ shipping talks held at its headquarters in London yesterday, marks the first time an entire global sector will be subjected to an international carbon pricing mechanism.

“Symbolically, it marks a shift towards strong global climate governance and sets a crucial precedent for pricing emissions in other sectors, like aviation,” Emma Fenton, senior director of climate diplomacy at Opportunity Green, said.

The draft agreement is set to be formally adopted in October 2025.  If adopted, the agreement would enter into effect in 2027.

The tax mechanism includes two emissions thresholds. Ships that exceed a lower baseline will pay a $100 per tonne fee on that excess, while for emissions above a stricter threshold, the fee rises to $380 per tonne. Revenue from this tax is estimated at $30-40 billion by 2030.

The UN’s new fuel standard for ships and a global pricing mechanism for emissions (i.e., a tax) “will become mandatory for large ocean-going ships over 5,000 gross tonnage, which emit 85% of the total CO2 emissions from international shipping,” IMO said in a press release.

The tax requires ships to use a less carbon-intensive fuel mix or pay for excess emissions. The measure aims to reduce shipping emissions to net zero by 2050, addressing the sector’s contribution of around 3% of total global emissions.  However, by the climate change cult’s own dubious rationale, the UN’s scheme will not ensure sufficient emissions reductions and so is ineffective.

“The mechanism is expected to deliver just an 8 per cent reduction in absolute emissions by 2030,” the Independent reported.  “Well below the IMO’s own target of 20 per cent.”

So, if it is ineffective even by climate alarmists’ estimation, what is this shipping tax really about?

Below is an IMO propaganda video selling their “green shipping revolution.” It was published a week before the 83rd session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee was held, the meeting where the global shipping tax was “approved.”  It demonstrates why they are targeting shipping – because the vast majority of global trade happens via maritime shipping.  Our everyday essentials rely on shipping, IMO states in the video, “from the food on our tables to the phones in our hands.”

While shipping companies may hand over the tax to the UN, the cost of IMO’s tax will be passed onto consumers.  In other words, ultimately, it is a tax that we will pay – to the UN, not our national governments – on many of the everyday goods we buy.

It is, as Alex Newman explained in a recent article, a tax imposed on us by the UN so unelected UN officials can move closer to usurping national governments and operating as a One World Government.

The United States did not participate in the negotiations, with the Trump administration rejecting efforts to impose economic measures based on fuel choice and threatening reciprocal measures if fees are charged. In addition to push back from the United States, Saudi Arabia and Russia also opposed the measure.

“The global tax scheme is backed by major powers, including historic US allies such as the far-left UK government of Keir Starmer, Japanese and South Korean authorities, and even the European Union. It is also being pushed hard by governments in the Pacific region and the Caribbean,” Alex Newman noted.

On Friday, 63 countries voted in favour of the global shipping tax, 16 voted against it and 25 abstained.  Many of the small island nations that helped push for the agreement in the first place abstained.  “They were sidelined in key discussions and expressed alarm over the final shape of the deal – particularly the lack of guaranteed support for a just and equitable transition,” the Independent said.

The “just and equitable transition” refers to funds that these countries are seeking from the UN.  What these funds would ultimately be used for by recipient governments is anyone’s guess, but the bottom line is, it’s a mechanism to transfer money from taxpayers in one country to the governments, and/or their cronies, of others.

Whenever we see the word “equity” or “equitable” used, it is an immediate indication that the basis of the argument is far-left ideology and part of the Globalists’ agenda.  It is one of the three concepts embedded in the nefarious diversity, equity and inclusion (“DEI”) agenda.

DEI is Marxist ideology.  It was a programme used by tyrants Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin and later prepackaged for use in the West.

DEI, particularly the “equity” and “inclusion” aspects, has been brandished about as mantras by both the UN and the World Economic Forum, as well as various non-profit organisations, activist groups and government officials.

Equity is not equality.  In fact, “equity” and “equality” are so fundamentally different that the two concepts could not be more opposed. In equity doctrine, there will be those who will benefit but not because they are deserving or in need; and, there will be those who are punished but not because they have committed a crime.  Benefits and punishments will be determined by the equity rule makers.  Equity will not only destroy the people it uses as an excuse to claim it is benevolent – it will destroy all of us and our societies.

While previously it was a hobby culminating in writing articles for Wikipedia (until things made a drastic and undeniable turn in 2020) and a few books for private consumption, since March 2020 I have become a full-time researcher and writer in reaction to the global takeover that came into full view with the introduction of covid-19. For most of my life, I have tried to raise awareness that a small group of people planned to take over the world for their own benefit. There was no way I was going to sit back quietly and simply let them do it once they made their final move.

I am not certain as to how unelected officials are able to promote any kind of Bills that get passed into law by their own fellowship. Why is the population of the world letting this happen. If I were the shipping companies, I would not pay the tax. If the UN chose to shut down all ships I believe there would be a world revolt from the populace against the UN for stopping the flow of goods from one country to another. Only our compliance allows this type of thing to carry on.

And just how do they plan on enforcing this? how do they plan on collecting this money? Under what legal authority are they acting under ?

Doesn’t matter. As long as the presidents and prime ministers and premiers agree to it, which they will, the shipping companies will be ordered to comply by their country of registration, backed up by that country’s courts and armed forces. The UN already collects money in membership fees and whatnot; the same channels will be used to pay the tax.

The US needs to leave the UN and to also kick them out of our country. Only by doing this will the rest of the woke and authoritarian nations wake up. Our money is the main source of UN wealth, but apparently they are afraid that President Trump will either eliminate our payments, or severely reduce them, thus the move for more money and power. Corrupt as hell just like the WHO, which no one should follow or listen to. Run by a marxist, not a doctor, and under the control of the CCP.

The title makes no sense. Higher shipping costs will REDUCE shipping, thus reducing global trade. So it’s a leap backward for One World Governance

Not necessarily. If taxes are high enough to offset the loss from less shipping, the UN’s income remains the same while fewer ships are out there polluting the water and fewer goods are getting to customers that want them — a triple win for the globalists

Polluting the water. All three hundred and twenty million cubic miles of it…hilarious….Full of dead things rotting and thousands of shipwrecks leaking and rotting…and as usual nature takes care of it and uses it. CO2 is good for this plant planet. More CO2 , more plants, more oxygen , more life.. nature has been around a lot longer than puny insignificant humans… outmasssed by insects by some insane number…1.2 billion critters for each of us….all respirating of course…and the fish are not far behind in outnumbering us…did you know that the 25,000 blue whales eat krill equivalent to the mass of the human race every 18 months…yet the oceans still teem with krill….anyone who thinks humans are in charge or in control of nature needs a slap. Curb your HUBRIS.

Can I pay my share of the tax with symbolic money, maybe those gold foil covered chocolate coins?

Tell the UN to get stuffed. They have no mandate. Call your local UN office and give them your opinion.
