Dr. Burt is a recently retired Northwestern University professor, Scripps faculty member and pioneer of haematopoietic stem cell transplant for autoimmune diseases. He provides the clearest explanation we’ve yet seen of the origins of covid, which he also lays out in a new book, ‘Kill Switch: The History of How Viruses Shaped Humanity and Led to COVID-19’.
Dr. Burt wrote the book for lay readers – from smallpox through the molecular-biology revolution after 1960 – after a Chinese post-doctorate told him in late December 2019 or early January 2020 that Shi Zhengli’s bat-coronavirus website had been scrubbed overnight.
He pulled National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (“NIAID”) grants routed through EcoHealth Alliance to Wuhan, saw gain-of-function work that made non-pathogenic viruses infect humans and in mid-to-late January 2020 briefed a major-network broadcaster. The reply was essentially “so what?”
Vaccines, Burt argues, have been a genuine “kill switch” for pandemics and have saved hundreds of millions of lives. The problem is the new project: engineering pathogens that never existed on Earth without inserting a molecular suicide gene or other containment – technology Burt himself published decades ago – and without serious oversight.
He walks through Fouchier’s 2012 H5N1 (influenza A, commonly known as bird flu) work, Fauci’s solo-authored 2012 paper claiming the benefits of such experiments outweigh the risk of a pandemic, the Ralph Baric–Shi Zhengli receptor-binding-domain collaboration in Nature Medicine and the later cover story that pointed away from a laboratory the US National Institutes of Health (“NIH”) had funded.
The Bayh-Dole Act turned tax-funded university research into pharmaceutical licenses while schools keep charity tax status; unlimited Political Action Committee (“PAC”) spending that can end a senator’s career who challenges the industry; US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) permitted direct-to-consumer drug adverts that underwrite corporate media on both the left and the right. Burt’s own multiple sclerosis (“MS”) transplant work – one-time, highly effective, no patent – is drowned out by infusion drugs that can bill tens or hundreds of thousands a year. He compares covid-era messaging to Hearst–Pulitzer yellow journalism after the USS Maine, and insists the fix is not hunting one villain but tracing the financial currents that keep the same “mistakes” alive.
The implications of the scenario Dr. Burt describes are profound. We have a bioweapons industry that has been hacking the microbial kingdom. The major media, ruled by revenue streams from pharmaceutical companies that benefit from this, know not to say anything about it and pretend it doesn’t exist. The profession of virology and epidemiology is also captured into silence.
Realising the scale of this creates a genuine shift in one’s understanding. Good people have done their best to put an end to these dangerous experiments, but it is unclear whether and to what extent they have had success.
This is an extremely serious matter. The word existential is overused – but it literally applies in this case. Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical industry stands ready with more injections, more potions, more pills, more costly and patented therapies.
We can see how this is all unfolding as a political split. Some people within the Trump Administration want to put an end to this madness. They face an uphill battle. You can watch the interview below.
