Revealing The Man Behind the Story – Paul Dimmock – And His Fight to Expose the Midazolam Murders

For more than half a decade, I have referred to him only as “the man who came to me with a shocking story of the involuntary euthanasia of a loved one within an NHS facility.” He wanted anonymity. He needed to work quietly, relentlessly, behind the scenes – gathering evidence for his father’s inquest, connecting families and getting the devastating truth about the midazolam murders and the lethal legacy of National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (“NICE”) guideline NG163 out to the world.
Today, I can finally name him: Paul Dimmock, devoted son of Derek “Del” Dimmock.

In the autumn of 2020, Paul reached out to me with a story that would change everything I thought I knew about end-of-life “care” in the UK. His father, 86-year-old Derek “Del” Dimmock, a Putney man who had lived for many years with various health conditions, was admitted to the Royal Trinity Hospice in Clapham on 6 June 2020, suffering from severe gout pain. A diagnosis of polyarticular gout was confirmed by the doctor on duty Dr. Phoebe Wright. Within hours – less than three hours according to evidence from the inquest – he was given numerous doses of midazolam, which were quietly doubled when he was comatose, as well as being placed on a syringe driver delivering midazolam, alfentanil and oxycodone under the controversial NG163 end-of-life protocol. He was denied fluids and given no proper swallow test. According to his wife, Maureen, Del was unresponsive within an hour of the first dose. He died the next day, 7 June 2020.
Paul and his mother, Maureen, have always maintained that this was not a natural death. It was iatrogenic, caused by the very system meant to care for him. Paul’s quiet determination to prove it has been nothing short of heroic.
I have covered this subject extensively in articles, interviews, in my book ‘Murdered By The State’ and in my documentaries ‘A Good Death?’, ‘Playing God’ and ‘Unseen’. Paul’s contribution, although anonymous, has been central and pivotal to everything word I’ve written and spoken and in every frame I’ve filmed.
Paul’s beloved dad Del could drink water, administer his own nitrous oxide for pain relief as he felt was required and chat with paramedics in the ambulance on the way to Royal Trinity Hospice (“RTH”) the day before his death. He was alert. Yet hospice staff claimed he was “actively dying” almost as soon as he arrived, and consultant Dr. Amy Kingston admitted him for “end of life” despite two London Ambulance paramedics and a district nurse (who attended Del’s home the night before) confirming in their evidence under oath in court that Del was not dying. The contradictions in the evidence have been staggering.
The inquest at Southwark Coroner’s Court under Senior Coroner Dr. Julian Morris has been a marathon of delays, absences and shocking revelations. Professor Sam Ahmedzai, one of the UK’s leading palliative care experts and chair of the NG31 guideline committee, gave devastating evidence: Del’s death was caused by iatrogenic acute intoxication with midazolam, alfentanil and oxycodone, compounded by uncontrolled gout and enforced dehydration. The official death certificate listing heart failure was, in his words, “misleading and insulting.” Records were chaotic; the controlled drugs book was destroyed despite staff, including RTH board members, being aware that an official written complaint had been submitted by the Dimmock family. Midazolam doses were doubled without proper review. No attempt was made to reverse the effects with the antidote flumazenil.
Paul sat through it all. At one point, visibly distressed by the testimony, he shouted “animals!” at the hospice’s medical director before stepping out to compose himself. His fight has been tireless.
This case is not isolated but is the only one I know of that’s reached the inquest stage. It shines a light on what so many families experienced in 2020 and since: the surge in midazolam orders (Matt Hancock’s infamous two-year stockpile, ordered from France in early 2020), the blanket application of DNRs (Do Not Resuscitate orders), the visitor bans that left loved ones isolated and vulnerable, and the implementation of Covid protocol NG163, a policy that turned palliative care into something far darker.
I have heard from hundreds of families since Paul first contacted me. I set up a support group that now has almost 200 members. The pattern is unmistakable and undeniable.
Paul has not fought alone, although at times he’s felt very much on his own. He has been supported by a few brave voices willing to speak the truth on his behalf: former Member of Parliament Andrew Bridgen, who hosted a meeting at the House of Commons where Paul and other families testified about midazolam misuse and demanded answers on excess deaths; David Icke, one of the earliest to raise the alarm on these issues; and Maajid Nawaz, who has reported meticulously at every day of the inquest, providing an unofficial transcript and making the public aware of the wider scandal through his Radical Media platform. Their support has been crucial in amplifying what the mainstream has tried to ignore.
Paul Dimmock chose to stay in the shadows for years so he could focus on justice for his father and expose a system that, in far too many cases, has hastened death rather than eased it. NG163 ended lives when they could have been saved.
As he and family counsel Mr. James Bogle now wait for Senior Coroner Dr. Julian Morris’s conclusion on an inquest which started years ago, in his desperation, Paul has decided to reveal his identity. Now the world can know his name and the full horror of what his family has endured.
The inquest may have concluded its oral hearings and evidence, but the fight for the coroner’s verdict – and real accountability – continues: for Del, for Maureen, for Paul, and for every family who lost someone to these sinister and deadly protocols.
The midazolam scandal is not history. It’s still happening. It is a wound festering in the heart of the NHS. And thanks to men like Paul Dimmock, it will not be buried.
So say hello Paul Dimmock, and thank him for all he’s done. He deserves all the love and support in the world.
