The Late Sir Gerald Kaufman Goes Viral!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A snippet of a video entitled “British lord speaks the truth” has gone viral over the internet this last week. The actual MP speaking in this video is the late Sir Gerald Kaufman. Gerald Kaufman was a British-born child of Polish Jewish immigrants and was a one of a few prominent Jewish politicians in Britain and a well-known, strident critic of Israel.

Unfortunately, he died in February 2017 aged 86. Kaufman “dedicated his life to serving those who he believed would benefit most from a Labour government and Labour values in action,” according to his family, and he was known for calling for sanctions against the Jewish state over its policies toward the Palestinians and comparing IDF soldiers to Nazis.

This was Gerald Kaufman’s speech in Parliament

Sir Gerald Kaufman by the Times of Israel

“Britain’s oldest MP, Jewish and vociferously anti-Israel, dies aged 86”

“KAUFMAN CALLED ARIEL SHARON’S GOVERNMENT ‘REPULSIVE,’ COMPARED HAMAS’S FIGHTERS IN GAZA TO JEWISH RESISTANCE FIGHTERS DURING WWII.”

This was the headline in the Times of Israel when Gerald Kaufman, who served 47 years in Parliament died. where they also pointed out the Sir Kaufman had “urged sanctions against Israel and compared IDF troops to Nazis.”

The octogenarian first stepped into the House of Commons in 1970 and has represented his constituents in Manchester, north-west England, ever since. Kaufman was for many years among the most vociferous anti-Israel voices in British politics.

In April 2002, at the start of Israel’s Operation Defensive Shield to stop the suicide bombing wave then targeting Israel’s cities, Kaufman called Israel an “international pariah,” and accused then-premier Ariel Sharon of ordering “his troops to use methods of barbarism against the Palestinians,” according to the BBC.

In his speech to the House of Commons at the time, Kaufman, who had served as shadow foreign secretary from 1987 to 1992, said it was “time to remind Sharon that the Star of David belongs to all Jews and not to his repulsive government. His actions are staining the Star of David with blood.”

in a 2004 Guardian oped, he urged South Africa-style economic sanctions against Israel.

And during the 2009 war between Israel and Hamas, dubbed “Operation Cast Lead” by Israel, he accused Israel of exploiting Holocaust guilt to justify its actions in the Gaza Strip.

“The current Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploits the continuing guilt among gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians,” Kaufman said in a speech in parliament.

Referring to his personal background, as the son of Jewish refugees from Poland, he said: “My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town. A German soldier shot her dead in her bed. My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza.”

Kaufman compared Hamas’s fighters in Gaza to Jewish resistance fighters during the Second World War, saying: “The spokeswoman for the Israeli army, Major Leibovich, was asked about the Israeli killing of, at that time, 800 Palestinians. The total is now 1,000. She replied instantly that ‘500 of them were militants.’ That was the reply of a Nazi. I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants.”

His opposition to Israel persisted into old age. In 2012, he penned a Huffington Post oped labeling Israel a “rogue state” and arguing that the fact that Israel is a democracy “means that the Israeli electorate is complicit in its government’s war crimes.”

And in 2015, he drew criticism from his own party leader Jeremy Corbyn for telling an audience at the Hamas-affiliated Palestine Return Centre that “Jewish money” was the reason Britain’s Conservatives held pro-Israel views.

Tributes

The then Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn paid tribute to Kaufman, whom he described as “an iconic and irascible figure” within the party. “He loved life and politics. I will deeply miss him, both for his political commitment and constant friendship,” Corbyn said.

Former party leader Ed Miliband, who is also Jewish, said Kaufman was “an outstanding servant of the Labour movement” whose “principles, values and friendship will be sorely missed,” the Daily Mail newspaper reported.

During his time in parliament, he saw nine prime ministers take the reins of power. When Kaufman was most recently re-elected, in 2015, he was 64 years older than the youngest parliamentarian, Mhairi Black of the Scottish National Party who was then just 20.

We really could do with Gerald Kaufman in our parliament now, but how lovely that the wise words of this very well thought of man who had dedicated his life to serving those who he believed would benefit most, are still being heard today!

George Soros is also of Jewish descent. That doesn’t necessarily make either one of them decent human beings.
The fact that they’re both socialists and anti-Israel tells me everything that I need to know.
The Expose is becoming a pro Hamas, pro terrorist, propaganda “news” outlet.
Next you’ll be doing stories on the benefits to mankind from the Iranian revolution.

Just a reminder: October 7th Hamas invaded southern Israel and butchered innocent men, women, children and babies in the most vile ways conceivable.
And you support the murderers…..

I guess you need to ,live in IGaza to understand the misery these people live in. I would suggest you do just that because you will NEVER understand the situation any other way.

Do you actually think that the living conditions in Gaza that that Palestinian people voted for (by voting for Hamas) justify throwing Jewish/Israeli babies in ovens alive? Not to mention all the other horrors.
The barbarians even posted their atrocities on the internet, and some of you people are making EXCUSES for them.

Hi Mark,
You need to step back and see the light.
What you have just quoted is propaganda.
How can Israel with the latest of everything get surprised by the enemy.
They were all told to stand down whilst the False Flag was being carried out.
The USA sends a vast amount of money to Israel, what do you think they spend it on.

Propaganda? False Flag? You think that they were made up? That the Israelis did it to themselves?
The evidence is very clear that Hamas supporters (many drugged up on stimulants) committed horrific atrocities against innocent civilians.
One of the reasons that we know it happened is because THEY POSTED THEIR CRIMES ON THE INTERNET and bragged about how many people they killed (and the way in which they killed them).
And some people here are making excuses for them.
No wonder civilization seems to be dying…..

Gerald Kaufman was a decent guy with sound principles, George Soros has neither of these qualities. You can’t put them in the same boat and generalise.

Yet again, all we get from Mark is denial of facts and perpetration of the lies. Mr Kaufman is not a Zionist bigot, unlike Mark who is and who has no shame for supporting genocide and war crimes.

I’m inclined to agree with Sir Gerald Kaufman after watching how the IDF deals with helpless bound and blindfolded Palestinian prisoners. Forward the following video to 19:50, and observe (if you can stomach it, 19:50 → 25:11):

A nice man, great humanitarian and seemingly a voice for justice in this horrendous dynamic; heart breaking for both sides.

But does he understand his God’s view on the land and its people and the prophetic outcome for the world – obviously not.

An excellent comment!

“The prophetic outcome for the world” will indeed come to pass. Upon the Lord’s Second Advent He will set up His millennial reign on Earth-Israel will then be the head of the nations. Until then Israel is an evil nation in unbelief-just as bad (or worse!) than the rest of the nations.

Another self hating Jew and it’s not surprising that I thought that this website is enlightened but unfortunately just with anti Israel narrative how disappointing.

Prior to more study, I used to be one of these lopsided Christians (Christian Zionists, if you will) that thought Israel could do no wrong-no matter what they did! How deluded I was! Kaufmann had no understanding of unfulfilled Bible prophecy-he didn’t hate himself! Does anyone?

A very twisted person
Sad to hear him lauded as a good leader
